Kim Lim Sells Her Designer Bags On Live Stream To Declutter, WhatsApp Temporarily Blocks Number Due To Super High Traffic

Is billionaire heiress Kim Lim bringing back the art of decluttering by Marie Kondo?

But instead of discarding her many pre-loved luxury bags, the 33-year-old beauty entrepreneur took to social media hosting two back-to-back live streams on her new IG account @kimlimstuff to hawk them off at unbelievable prices.

According to newbie live streamer Kim, she’s doing this to declutter her wardrobe space and not for profit.

Especially not at these prices. For example, a black Dior saddle bag that usually retails for $6,400 was going for just $2,900.

Now, we would use the term ‘pre-loved’ loosely too, as according to Kim, she has never used some of the bags, many from Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton.

The first session on Tuesday (May 13) kicked off at 10pm and ran for nearly four hours, attracting over 12K viewers.

The second live stream ran past 4am on Thursday (May 15) and peaked at over 16K viewers. When the stream ended at 4.15am, there were still 1.9K viewers.

Wait, with those numbers, doesn’t this also make Kim one of Singapore’s top live streamers overnight? Wang Lei, undoubtedly Singapore’s top live streamer, reportedly averages 5-6K viewers per stream.

Kim also made it gathering of sorts by enlisting the help of her content creator friends that included Jianhao Tan, and Xiaxue, the latter no stranger to doing live stream sales.

We even spotted Kim’s step mum and former actress, Cherie Lim, making a cameo, helping show off some of the pieces up for grabs.

While some of Kim’s items have been used a couple of times, she still showed off some that were in mint condition and had the plastic wrapping intact.

Viewers had to comment quickly to claim an item, with payment required in three minutes via WhatsApp and proof of the transfer.

Even those who didn’t manage to snag a bag could choose to walk away with something.

The ever-generous Kim offered every viewer three S$100 vouchers to use at two of her businesses, illumia Therapeutics and Papilla, and event space, 198 Space.

Isn’t that like S$300 worth of vouchers just for being a viewer?

She later revealed that more than 10K people messaged in for the vouchers, causing WhatsApp to block the number temporarily due to the traffic.

According to Kim’s Instagram story, she decided to give out vouchers as she felt bad that some people did not manage to get bags and hoped the gesture would make everyone feel better.

Now, besides her luxury bags and trinkets, Kim also managed to sell two dubious-looking bags of air for… S$88?

Seriously? We hear it was for a dare and Kim later offered gifts to those who bid for the bags of air.

Of course, what is a popular live streamer without a dash of (as if there wasn’t enough to begin with) drama?

According to Xiaxue’s IG stories, a lucky buyer who managed to score a black Chanel 22 chain hobo quilted lambskin with shearling bag for S$6,900, went to list it shortly on a website for S$8,500. The retail price of the bag is said to be $11K.

The buyer was even, well, ‘honest’ enough to add in the description that it was ‘Kim Lim collection’.

The profiteerer didn’t go unnoticed and Kim’s team called the buyer out.

Xiaxue blasted the move, writing: “At least wait for a while to sell lah, so we don’t detect [it]. You haven’t even got the bag with you, yet you went to list [the bag] …. You are lucky I am being nice now to not reveal your IG name”.

In a separate Instagram story, Kim said she was disappointed by the buyer’s action and announced that she would refund and block the person online.

Kim also requested successful buyers not to resell their loot “or else karma will hit you”.

“I let go at such good prices and lost a lot of money but if it can make someone else happy, and help me declutter, then okay, declutter,” she wrote.

Other hiccups included accusations from salty viewers claiming some of the hosts of giving priority to their own friends and followers during the bidding process.

The team tried to rectify the alleged loophole in the second live stream by accepting repeated bids before taking a screenshot of the winner.

Still, some viewers were not satisfied and demanded more transparency, and according to Xiaxue, even requested a new host account.

Xiaxue hit back at the criticism while also saying “99.9 per cent of the chosen winners are not my friends”.

She also asked disgruntled viewers to ask themselves why their accounts glitched while others did not.

“End of the day, nobody owes you the right to purchase a Chanel bag lah hor?” added Xiaxue.

She also highlighted how some viewers were rude to the backend staff when it came to claiming the vouchers.

“OMG, stop leh, please. Don’t owe you one leh? You paid nothing??? Still keep scolding for what ah? Get free vouchers still so rude!” wrote Xiaxue.
