When I was a little girl, there was one board game to rule them all: Pretty Pretty Princess. I don’t remember the rules or game play of said game, only that you got to put on tons of fake jewelry and get all glammed up—and that was reason enough for me to be completely obsessed. When I saw Kylie Jenner’s birthday manicure, done by her go-to nail artist Zola Ganzorigt, I instantly flashed back to my child self bedecking her hands and wrists with gems.
Jenner, who turned 27 on August 10 with a glamorous yacht trip, celebrated her birthday with a gem-studded manicure that would be right at home on the pastel Pretty Pretty Princess packaging. Ganzorigt started by shaping Jenner’s nails into medium-long almonds, then applied a few coats of a neutral, pale milky pink-nude shade as the base. Atop that, she applied tiny gemstones in various shapes, including a ruby square on Jenner’s thumb, two little peridot droplets on her pointer finger, and an aquamarine circle on her pinky. And no, despite Jenner’s wealth, these are just pretend gems, not real ones—but they do bear a striking resemblance to the stick-on earrings of my youth! Jenner would definitely win every round of Pretty Pretty Princess in these nails.
Jenner recently said she’s back in her “fun nails era,” and has been experimenting with nail art more frequently. Earlier this summer, she stepped out of her mani comfort zone with a garden-themed set featuring teeny tiny bugs crawling all over her nails. (Jenner’s pal Hailey Bieber, another Ganzorigt client, also leaned into the seasonal art with her farmers market mani, which was packed with miniscule, hand-painted fruits and veggies.) The best part about Jenner’s birthday nails is that they’re pretty easy to DIY at home or at your nail salon; all you need is a neutral base and some colorful gems and you’re basically Kylie Jenner herself.
