Rap star Latto has already worked with some of music’s biggest names, including Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino and Mariah Carey. However, there’s one huge name on her list of dream collaborators. In an interview with XXL, the “Big Energy” rapper revealed that hip hop legend André 3000 is the artist she’s dreaming about working with. She even already has a track ready to go.

“I got a song for André right now that will go so fuckin’ crazy. And I’m really just trying to pull all strings, so hopefully, this can reach André somehow,” she said. “I want André on my album.”

In the past, this may have been a pipe dream, but with the OutKast star’s recent return to music, she might have a chance. Though one major roadblock is the “Hey Ya!” singer’s comments to GQ that at 48, he’s too old to continue rapping. I don’t know what Latto’s song is about, but I’m gonna guess that it might not align with André’s unique artistic sensibilities.

Sampling Mariah’s hit “Fantasy” on “Big Energy” made Latto a crossover star, and even got her a Best New Artist nomination at the 2023 Grammys. That kind of success can lead to jealousy and rivalry. Though the “Lottery” rapper asserts that any beefs among other female rappers like Sexyy Red or Ice Spice is really between the fans, not the artists.

“I think it really don’t be a problem until we let fans, stans, whatever you want to call them…get in the mix,” she said. “I think that’s what stirs the pot. Because we will all be fans of each other and commenting and following each other, but then once they get to comparing, they will turn us against each other, which is very weak-minded of us as female rappers.”

“I will take that accountability. I don’t think truly, at heart, it’s us,” she continued. “Once people are infiltrating your mind and got you thinking this, and now you feel this type of way without even addressing the person, now you addressing fans. I think we be falling for these traps that they put on female rappers.”

She’s not wrong, because somehow women rappers have always been pitted against one another. I’m not saying men don’t have beefs, but they aren’t expected to instantly hate each other. Why does the narrative have to be that these women hate each other? Why can’t it be about them possibly collaborating? If you’re a real fan of the music, stop making up fake rivalries and support everyone, because that’s how women find true success in the genre.
