TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Kansans support the Kansas City Chiefs in numerous ways. These fans at RachPaynts hope the team can “nail” another big game victory.
“We are doing a lot of Chiefs Nails for the Super Bowl. At least three or four sets a day of Chiefs getting ready for the Super Bowl. I would say more this year than the past few years. I feel like this year people are ready to be more excited about it,” said Rachel Maxwell, the operator and nail artist for RachPaynts.
One superstitious client is getting her nails done to bring good luck.
“They weren’t done the year that they lost, but I did come back last year and got ‘em done,” said Krissy Torrez, a customer. “So of course, we had to come in and get them done this year because the threepeat in our house would be insane.”
Mrs. Maxwell started her nail art journey at a tender age.
“When I was about 12 or 13 years old, I started in my bedroom. I saw a picture, I believe it was on Pinterest back then and it was nail art, and I was like, ‘I can do that,’ and then surprise I could.”
She continued from there and got licensed three years ago. Now, she has cultivated an environment of care for her clients ever since.
“My heart and passion [are] creating and loving others, like being able to just shower other people with love. I have so much to give and so when you just when all the puzzle pieces just fit so well, it’s so fun. The things that I create because of it are just absolutely magical,” said Maxwell.
“Nails are just so much fun, and she’s incredible at what she does, so I knew she would be able to crush freehanding a whole set of Chiefs nails for me,” said Torrez.
Maxwell feels a kinship to the Chiefs, on her path to be the best.
“They just never give up. They just fight and fight and fight, and the grit that they have and determination because they want to be the best and they’re determined to, and they will let nothing stop them. I just think that’s a very admirable thing, and I think that’s something we all look up to a lot.”
