Trinamool leader Mahua Moitra, known for her luxury handbags, appeared before the parliamentary ethics committee concerning alleged cash-for-query accusations. She denied the allegations but admitted to sharing her parliamentary login details with businessman Darshan Hiranandani. This appearance is perceived by many as a statement, given her penchant for luxury handbags. Previously, she faced criticism for carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag in parliament, earning the nickname “Marie Antoinette” for apparent indifference to poverty. The committee is investigating BJP member Nishikant Dubey’s accusations that Moitra asked parliamentary questions on Hiranandani’s behalf in exchange for bribes. Moitra disclosed receiving gifts, makeup, and architectural plans from Hiranandani, clarifying the makeup’s source and home renovation funding. The ethics committee has involved government ministries in its inquiry.
