Leading German makeup brand Artdeco is back in the Philippines. With a vast range of around 800 products, think of them as a premium brand with MAC prices and the quality of Chanel.
According to Artdeco Cosmetics sales director for APAC Jackie Cheng, their products like Perfect Teint Foundation, Crystal mascara and High Precision Liquid Liner are bestsellers, while she personally favors the No Color Setting Powder.
“It is a fantastic product,” she says. “It looks like a normal powder but it’s not; it’s based on a gel technology so it doesn’t dry your face out.”
Her secret is to apply a generous amount of the No Color Setting Powder after skincare “and instantly you’ll feel your skin is like baby skin.”
Artdeco is also known for its customizable system of magnetic compacts that you can fill with your choice of eyeshadow, blush and brow powders, plus camouflage cream. “Our camouflage cream is so professional that you can actually cover tattoos, pigmentation, and basic discoloration on the face,” Jackie says. “And I love the Magnum boxes — really big boxes where you can mix all categories. For us, the DNA of the brand for 40 years is the customizable system.”
Artdeco, which recently launched in Korea and is doing very well with their foundations there, will soon create special makeup and skincare products for Asia-Pacific that will fit the Asian skin tone. “We actually work with a renowned Korean supplier,” Jackie reveals. “So we source the raw materials from Italy, but the concept came from Korea.”

From high-tech down jackets to high-tech fragrances
Moncler, the luxury fashion brand known for its puffy nylon down jackets, has launched its two signature fragrances in the Philippines at Rustan’s: Moncler Pour Femme (For Women) and Moncler Pour Homme (For Men).
“They are a solid reflection of the brand: very cool, futuristic and with a very innovative concept,” said The Beauty Edit Ph’s Nicole Limos-Morales, referring to the 150ml bottles that have LED screens on them, on which you can customize and display your own messages, like “Happy birthday!” “I love you” or “Will you marry me?”
“Moncler is a beautiful and very successful brand,” says Renaud Boisson, Interparfums Asia-Pacific managing director. “It’s an Italian brand now but it started in France 71 years ago, and they started creating technical and qualitative mountain wear. And they’ve rapidly evolved in the past 20 years or so to the forefront of style and innovation.”
Luxasia Philippines senior brand manager Dinty Alcantara elaborated on the brand story: “Moncler was created by René Ramillon and André Vincent in 1952 and was established in Monestier-de-Clermont, a small village in the mountains in France. ‘Mon’ comes from Monestier, and ‘cler” comes from Clermont.
“In 1954 the first padded down nylon Moncler was made, the most famous product of the brand, and in the 1980s products started to be worn in the cities on a daily basis and became a true phenomenon among younger clients.”
Thus, the brand motto is “born in the mountains, living in the city,” and one of their values is “embrace crazy,” which informs Moncler’s out-of-the-box marriage of cool and chic.
This is true in the fragrances as well, which Alcantara describes as “a perfect balance between the sophistication of luxurious, natural and raw materials and high-tech, cutting edge molecules. So you can imagine a fragrance crafted like a Moncler jacket: perfectly comfortable and enveloping.”
Star perfumers Quentin Bisch and Nisrine Grillié created Moncler Pour Femme, while famed noses Antoine Maisondieu and Christophe Raynaud created Moncler Pour Homme.
Luxasia Ph senior training manager Tin Conde says they created one DNA for both fragrances, with a Moncler-exclusive Mountain Woods accord as the backbone. An accord is a combination of individual notes to create a scent you can’t get from nature, so Mountain Woods is actually made up of cedar wood, sandalwood, amber and musk.
The highlight of Moncler Pour Femme, which Conde describes as “floral, woody and musky,” is another accord — a fantasy top note of Powdery Snow combined with bergamot for a sparkling, powdery effect. “It lifts you to pure, mountain-air crispness, inspired by the feeling of snowy mountain heights and a gentle, soft and fresh sensation,” Conde says. “When it dries down, you feel the femininity and voluptuousness of floral heliotrope and jasmine. The base note is sensual and addictive, thanks to vanilla and that Mountain Wood accord.”
Moncler Pour Homme, meanwhile, highlights an exclusive Alpine Green accord. “It’s woody and aromatic, perfect for our weather here in the Philippines,” says Conde. “Woody is very masculine and very guapo, and aromatic is very refreshing.”
Like Moncler Pour Femme, the masculine eau de parfum is also inspired by nature and the fresh, Alpine sensation of mountain peaks. Top notes are the powerful and aromatic Alpine Green accord and clary sage, the heart is vibrant cypress and cedar wood, while the base notes are vetiver and Moncler’s Mountain Woods accord, “which gives you this luxury, enriched feeling,” Conde says.
Both fragrances are so enveloping they hug you, just like a Moncler jacket.
