Before we can even get our hands on all those Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trophies, we’ll first need to fight our way through an ever-growing roster of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villains when the hotly-anticipated sequel comes to PS5 on Friday, October 20, 2023. So, to ready ourselves for the perfect platinum run, let’s take a look at all the baddies poised to appear in this obvious contender for the best PS5 games list.
Every Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villain from Venom to Kraven
So far, we know Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will see the series debut of at least four big Spider-Man villains, though we’re certain more bad guys will be revealed when we eventually get our hands on Insomniac Games’ latest title. That means we’ll be updating this list again closer to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release date, so make sure to check back in if you want all the details of Miles’ and Peter’s latest rogues gallery.
Venom
If you’ve seen any of the trailers or marketing material whatsoever, it should come as no surprise to you at this point that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s central antagonist will be Venom. The symbiote was teased at the end of the first game, and the latest trailers have given us a good long look at what the brute will look like when fully bonded with on-again off-again Spider-Man villain Harry Osborn.
While not always an out-and-out villain, Venom will definitely play a pivotal role in messing up Spider-Man’s world in the upcoming game — especially when the symbiote bonds with Peter and grants him access to the destructive Spider-Man 2 Black Suit. However, these Spider-Man games are great at throwing twists at us, so don’t be too surprised if Peter and Harry aren’t the only ones to receive Venom’s power.
Kraven the Hunter
Despite being one of the original Sinister Six members, Kraven the Hunter failed to make an appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man alongside the rest of the squad, depriving fans of the chance to fight one of the all-time greatest Spider-Man villains on the PS4. Luckily, Insomniac know how to spoil the fans, so now we have Kraven playing a very pivotal role in the PS5 sequel.
For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, in lieu of the still-incarcerated Kingpin and the now-disbanded Underground, it seems Kraven will be providing the tech-enhanced goons that Peter and Miles will be regularly beating up all over New York City. So far, we know Kraven will be hot on the tail of The Lizard in the game, though once he catches sight of Venom, we’re sure he’ll figure out which creature warrants the bigger prize.
The Lizard
Curt Connors could first be spotted hanging around in the post-credits of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, so fans had every right to suspect his transformed Lizard form to appear in the sequel. While he might do some damage and will probably get his own boss battle, everything we’ve seen of The Lizard so far suggests he’s more of a victim than a villain, with Kraven doing everything he can to slay the poor doctor.
Wraith
After a traumatic incident in Marvel’s Spider-Man The City That Never Sleeps, Spider-Man’s favorite cop friend Yuri Watanabe decides to take up a life of vigilantism — a life that happens to involve her point-blank shooting people to death to get results. Donning the new persona ‘Wraith,’ you can expect Yuri and Peter to butt heads somewhere over the course of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s runtime.
Spider-Man PS4 villains confirmed for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
As we reflected on Marvel’s Spider-Man’s 5th anniversary, one of the great strengths of the original PS4 game was the sheer number of classic Spidey villains we got to fight. While only a number of returning rogues have been confirmed to appear Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 so far, we’re sure this list will gain a few more names closer to launch.
Mister Negative
One of the major antagonists from Marvel’s Spider-Man, Martin Li — AKA Mister Negative — is set to return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Whether he’ll play a major role in the story or not isn’t known at this point, but we do know he’ll sport a wispy prison beard and get absolutely chewed out by a devastated Miles Morales. That’s at least two solid reasons to look forward to seeing Mister Negative in the upcoming game.
Norman Osborn
Look, just because you haven’t had the chance to beat the snot out of Norman Osborn yet, that doesn’t mean he’s not a major antagonist in the Spider-Man games. Osborn’s mass production of Devil’s Breath incites pretty much every major antagonist in the first game, and he’s also responsible for letting Sable International tear New York apart in that game too.
While he’s popularly known to become iconic Spider-Man nemesis Green Goblin in other media, its unclear whether he’ll actually mount the glider in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. That set, he will most certainly continue to wield tremendous power and influence during the sequel, as ultimately he is the guy responsible for uniting his son Harry with major antagonist Venom.
Marvel’s Spider-Man villains that could still show up on PS5
One of the three Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 improvements we’re hoping to see in the new game is an improved take on petty crime — just a touch more variety would be very welcome! One smart way to do that: just let some of Spider-Man’s foes from the first game run riot. While these jerks probably won’t take up much of the plot in the sequel, here are all the previous villains we think could show up at some point during Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Kingpin
Wilson Fisk has been in jail for the better part of two games now, with both Miles and Peter taking time out of their busy schedules to unseat the Kingpin’s chokehold on New York. That said, you can never truly count Fisk out of the fight. Sable International, the Maggia, the Inner Demons, and the Underground have all relinquished much of their grasp on the city, which might give Fisk another chance to reclaim his throne.
Dr. Octopus
Otto Octavius will likely find himself very much behind bars for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but then the same should be said for Mister Negative, and we already know he’ll be in the new game. So, what’s to stop Peter Parker’s one-time mentor and friend from also getting a little taste of freedom?
Rhino
Aleksei Sytsevich, AKA the Rhino, has made two dazzling appearances in the series so far, and we wouldn’t count him out for a third. By the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, its left hanging whether the brute has been officially detained and returned to prison. Plus, that hardly stopped him from show up the last time!
Electro
Max Dillon, AKA Electro, has still yet to achieve his ultimate aim of becoming pure, living energy — and who’s to say Miles successfully cleared New York of all the Nuform that was left lying around? Some truly explosive things could happen if Electro got his hands on that, so don’t count this Sinister Six villain out just yet.
Scorpion
Max Gargan, AKA The Scorpion, is just out and out a murderer, so it seems very unlikely anyone’s letting this guy out of prison for any reason. Still, it feels like we’ve only had a taste of the hallucinogenic attacks that this supervillain is capable of, so we’d certainly love a rematch in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Vulture
Honestly, Vulture’s appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seems the most unlikely of all the Sinister Six. While Octavius certainly promised to cure Adrian Toomes’ spinal cancer, its unknown if he ever actually managed it. So, it’s kind of up in the air if Toomes will be any shape to duke it out come the sequel. That said, the Vulture appeared Miles Morales in hologram form before, so it’s very possible we might fight him in holo-form again here.
Taskmaster
Sure, Peter Parker certainly passed Taskmaster’s test in the original game, but you’ll note that Miles Morales remains unproven in the eyes of whatever shady cabal is hiring the memetic mercenary. These were some of the most fun side missions in Marvel’s Spider-Man too, so here’s hoping we see Taskmaster return with more trials for us to beat.
Tombstone
Tombstone’s name appears on the list of targets Kraven the Hunter plans to hunt down on his trip to New York, so its very possible we’ll see Lonnie Lincoln go another round at some point in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We heard that Tombstone was still in prison in Miles Morales, which might make him easy prey for Kraven — too easy, I’d venture. Someone might just have to let him loose.
Shocker
Look, if there’s one villain who never fails to just show up and be a menace, its Herman Schultz — AKA Shocker. Sure, he’s in The Raft at the start of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which will prove a lot harder to bust him out of that the prison he got freed from during the first game, but crazier things have happened. That said, Shocker’s pretty lacking in ambition, so don’t be surprised if he gets picked up and jailed almost immediately after.
Simon Krieger
The central antagonist of Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, Krieger is a smarmy joy to behold in the spin-off title, and we’d love nothing more than to see him ham it up again from behind bars. After all, he’s still probably very rich and powerful. Plus, now that he no longer has to keep up with this whole ‘decent human being’ charade, he might just be a lot more dangerous in future appearances.
