Mary J. Blige attended the 2023 Forbes Power Women’s Summit in New York City on Thursday, opting for a neon pink Sergio Hudson ensemble. The R&B songstress spoke at the annual event in a cropped jacket with black bordering, channeling an ’80s trend and a strapless minidress. The jacket was from Sergio Hudson’s spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection.
In February, WWD reported on the designer’s collection, which Hudson said was inspired by the graffiti mural artwork of Jason Naylor. “Fashion was fun,” Hudson said with a wide smile, referencing additional inspirations: Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel in the ’90s and Fran Fine, Fran Drescher’s character from her TV sitcom “The Nanny.”
During the event, Blige talked to Moira Forbes, Forbes’ executive vice president. “I don’t have a high school education. I don’t have a college degree, bachelor’s or any of that. But, what I do have is the street smarts that I grew up with and me being pliable by listening to people that do know,” the singer said.
The 2023 Forbes Power Women’s Summit brought together a number of women across industries to help unveil new ideas and thinking. Along with Blige, Kim Cattrall, Tiffany Haddish and Ariana DeBose were tapped as speakers.
When it comes to her bold style, Blige frequently collaborates with stylists and Maurícía Henry and Jeremy Haynes.
Blige is fresh off of the 2023 MTV VMAs, which aired on Tuesday. For the occasion, where she presented P. Diddy with the Global Icon Award, the songstress wore a textured Albina Dyla dress which featured a high-low feather-adorned skirt.
Blige also made multiple appearances at New York Fashion Week, sitting front row among other A-list stars at the LaQuan Smith and Area fashion shows showcasing the brand’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear offerings.
