Her caddying journey and inspiration

Tanya Holl Paterson’s caddying career took off in 1997 when she joined the WPGA Tour of Australasia at just 23 years old. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey that would see her work with some of the biggest names in golf. The following year, Paterson made her breakthrough on the LPGA Tour, as noted on her Facebook profile. While it’s unclear if she transitioned directly into caddying or took her time to get there, one thing is certain – her journey has been marked by perseverance and determination.

Interestingly, the 50-year-old’s husband, Mike, is also a seasoned caddie with a long history of working with major champions like Karrie Webb and So Yeon Ryu. He had a profound impact on her career. Currently, he works with Emily Kristine Pedersen. With his extensive experience, the caddie is undoubtedly a valuable source of guidance and inspiration for Paterson throughout her career. With her skills and experience in place, she was ready to form a new partnership that would take her career to the next level.

Her partnership with the South African star

Paterson teamed up with Ashleigh Buhai, with whom she has worked for four years, starting after 2020. Their partnership has been a game-changer, leading to their most successful year yet, 2022. Notably, this was the year Buhai broke through with her first LPGA title, a major, at the AIG Women’s British Open at Muirfield.

“Well, Dreams do come true! ♥️ A week I will never forget, winning the AIG Womens Open. Major champion now my Boss, my friend Ashleigh Buhai I am truly honoured, blessed and proud to be your caddy and to share this amazing moment with you is just unbelievable. I’m still pinching myself.” Posted the looper after their tremendous achievement.

Furthermore, this victory was sweet, with Buhai taking home a staggering $1.09 million from the prize purse. Interestingly, before Paterson, Buhai’s husband, David, however, since joining forces with Paterson, the golfer’s career has soared to new heights. Their success continued in June 2023, when they clinched their second title, the Shoprite LPGA Classic.

Moreover, the partnership has been incredibly lucrative, both earning over $3.5 million together since they paired up. Assuming a standard contract, Paterson would have earned at least $350,000 from the amount. Meanwhile, their collaboration has also led to a strong working relationship, built on trust and mutual respect. Additionally, her personal life and interests outside of golf also offer a fascinating glimpse into her personality and passions.

The LPGA looper’s nail art interest, and more

The 50-year-old’s life reveals a creative side, showcased through her love for nail art. She regularly posts her vibrant nails on Instagram, including a pre-Paris Olympics post captioned,  “Nails done! Special occasions call for special nails😀🇿🇦Just a tad excited for Paris.” However, a lighthearted bet with World No. 2 Lilia Vu has also made her nail art famous.

So if Ashleigh Buhai finishes higher than Vu, Paterson gets to choose Vu’s nail color. World No. 2 revealed that Paterson’s taste in nail colors is opposite to hers, preferring black or dark colors, while Vu likes pastel shades. The bet adds a playful touch to their professional rivalry, with Vu jokingly threatening to choose a baby pink color for Paterson.

When not on her duties, Tanya Holl Paterson unwinds with a variety of activities that bring her joy and serenity. Spending quality time with loved ones is a top priority, as seen in a heartwarming post, “Finally caught a fish🐟 good job babe!” while on a fishing trip with Mike in Busselton. She also enjoys a day at the horse races, and sometimes playfully tries to pick a winner.
