Nicki Minaj made history as the first solo female artist to win Album of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards, for her recent release, Pink Friday 2. She was nominated alongside the likes of 21 Savage, Megan Thee, Savage, GloRilla, and Drake.
Beyoncé previously won the award for her The Carters collaboration with Jay-Z on the 2018 album, Everything Is Love. The award has been dominated by Jay-Z, T.I, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake, who have each won three times.

Last month, Nicki Minaj revealed that instead of working on the deluxe edition of Pink Friday, she will be creating a completely new album. “Instead of doing a DELUXE to Pink Friday 2, I’ve decided to do a brand new album,” she revealed. “The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album. Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much.”
Released last year, the 22-track album contains collaborations with the likes of J Cole, Future, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Lil Uzi Vert. The track “Are You Gone Already” features a sample of the Billie Eilish track, “when the party’s over”, which is taken from her 2019 debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?.
