Talking with Vogue earlier this month, Nicki Minaj revealed that she went back to her proverbial roots while creating the effort, which is due out on her birthday, December 8.
“When I look back at a lot of my music, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, where was the me in it?’” she said to the venerated fashion outlet. “So for this album, I went back to the old game plan.”

She continued: “The idea that saying something like that [referring to the lyric, “I’m fighting for the girls who never thought they could win,” from “I’m The Best” on Pink Friday] could give hope to people — that optimistic outlook is something I think I got away from.”
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Minaj dropped yet another breadcrumb about her forthcoming project – indicating the opening song is a tribute to someone who is no longer in her life.

However, it’s unclear if this a friend, family member or former lover.
“Last night when all the world was sleeping, I was up…missing you…a painful amount of missing you…listening to the intro track on #PinkFriday2… I wrote it for you,” she wrote.

“On Dec. 8th…when the clock strikes 12, one of my best-kept secrets & proudest moments will be unveiled.”
A tour is expected to follow, and Minaj recently told fans to expect a completely different experience this time around and that it will be “greater than every other tour combined.”
“Even though this album is called Pink Friday 2, even though we love the nostalgia, this will not remind you of another tour. That’s how I’ll say it,” she wrote on Twitter/X last month. “I mean, it’s gonna be greater than every other tour combined — like this album.”
She added: “This will be a very different feeling tour, even if you’ve been to every Nicki Minaj tour that’s ever existed. There are certain things that I always do similar in all my tours; this time, it’s going to be a completely different perspective.

“In addition to it being, of course, a whole new album, the approach to the tour will be very different and the feel of the tour will be very different. We still gon’ cover all the ground that is required to cover in order for y’all to know that you fucking with the best, but it won’t remind you of another tour.”
