Bhopal: In a major breakthrough, Bag Sewania police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of burglars with the arrest of three including a juvenile and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 8 lakh.
The kingpin Dilip Bhuriya, 26, is a notorious history-sheeter from Kamla Nagar. He was traced to Surat in Gujarat from where he was arrested. During interrogation, Bhuriya revealed involvement of his aide Ravi Mavi, 18, a resident of Chunabhatti, and a juvenile in the crime. Further probe led to the seizure of stolen items, including a diamond necklace, a gold chain, a pair of diamond earrings and a two-wheeler used in the crime. The total value of the stolen booty is estimated to be around Rs 8 lakh.
Kingpin Dilip Bhuriya has multiple theft cases registered against him in Kamla Nagar, Habibganj, and Chuna Bhatti. He is also involved in cases under the Excise Act and POCSO Act. His accomplice Ravi Mavi also has theft cases registered in Habibganj and Bag Sewania police stations. The third accused is a juvenile offender, whose details have been withheld as per legal protocols.
The modus operandi of the gang involved surveying residential areas during the day. Bhuriya, along with Mavi and the juvenile, would drive around looking for locked houses. Once a target was confirmed, Mavi and the juvenile would break into the house, while Bhuriya remained on guard outside. After executing the theft, they would escape on a two-wheeler.
SHO Bag Sewania Amit Soni said the accused broke into the locked house of complainant Mayank Mishra at Arvind Vihar in Bagmugaliya on the evening of Dec 24, 2024. The police were informed and a case was registered.
During investigation, the police meticulously examined the crime scene and scrutinised CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. Alerts were issued to nearby police stations and districts via the city control room. With sustained efforts, police traced Bhuriya and his accomplices and arrested them.
Further probe led to the seizure of stolen items. Police are continuing their investigation to recover additional stolen goods and uncover other related burglary cases.
