Notorious thief held with Rs 2.5 lakh booty

Bhopal: The Ayodhya Nagar police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a notorious burglar involved in multiple house break-ins and recovered stolen gold and silver jewellery worth approximately Rs2.5 lakh. The accused, Aslam Khan, along with his brother Mushtaq, used to conduct reconnaissance of locked houses during the day and execute burglaries at night. The police have launched a manhunt for Mushtaq, who is currently absconding. The nabbed accused is a habitual offender and has a previous crime record of around 50 cases registered against him at various police stations.
Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare said that on February 25, complainant Hemant Kumar Rajput, 28, a resident of Sun City Lake City Colony, Ayodhya Nagar, filed a complaint stating that he left for the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on February 22, after locking his house. Upon returning home on February 24 at around 8 PM, he discovered that the main gate lock was broken, and the house was ransacked. The almirah was forced open, and valuables, including gold and silver jewellery, a 32-inch TV, a microwave, an iron, and various household items, were stolen. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and began an investigation. The police team reviewed CCTV footage from the area and activated their network of informants to track down the accused.
SHO Lilhare said that after continuous efforts, the police received information about a suspicious man wearing a blue shirt and jeans, roaming inside the colony. Acting swiftly, the police rounded him up and identified him as Aslam Khan, 45, a resident of Rajgarh Colony, Gautam Nagar. During interrogation, Aslam confessed to the burglary, stating that he executed the theft along with his brother Mushtaq.
He further revealed that the stolen items, including a gold necklace, a nose pin, a gold ring, two gold rings, four pairs of children’s silver bangles, a pair of small silver anklets, a large silver bangle, an oven, a mixer, and an iron, were hidden at his house. He also disclosed that he handed over some gold jewellery and an LED TV to his brother Mushtaq for selling. The police seized stolen valuables worth Rs2.5 lakh from Aslam’s possession and launched a search operation for Mushtaq, who also owns the motorcycle used in the crime.
