Darrick Minner was suspended for more than two years for his role in the James Krause betting scandal. Teammate Jeff Molina was also benched, getting hit with a three-year sit. Sounds harsh, until you remember that Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) once tried to ban Nick Diaz five years for smoking pot.
What a difference a few years makes.
NSAC handed down its ruling this week after both fighters were stuck in limbo since the 2022 incident. As for Krause, the alleged mastermind (and offshore bookie) behind the betting debacle, he remains suspended until further notice. Hopefully he finds a way to eat before getting his (somewhat overdue) day in court.
“Having direct knowledge of a serious injury sustained by a fellow fighter, Darrick Minner, Molina failed to inform the commission of the serious injury, violation of NAC 467.885, and instead of informing the commission, additionally placed a significant bet with a gaming entity on Minner’s fight,” attorney general representative Matthew Feely said (via MMA Junkie).
The punishments levied against Minner and Molina are retroactive to the date of their temporary suspensions, which means Minner can return as early as March 26 while Molina will be eligible on Nov. 5, though neither combatant will be welcome in UFC. Dana White and Co. handed down the ban hammer shortly after the sh*t hit the fan.
As a result, the promotion will operate with more “Integrity” moving forward.
