It’s August! Hooray! Nothing against July, but the month had sort of run its course for me. I’m ready for a fresh start, even if a month is a somewhat arbitrary distinction. In any case, we have a new Strands puzzle to solve, so let’s dive right in!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. Let’s solve today’s, shall we?

I struggled a lot with today’s even once I was pretty sure of the theme. At first I thought it was going to be all about martinis, but then I found BOOTY and that theory went right out the window. SALT, BOOTY, HANDS . . . ah, okay so definitely all things that SHAKE, though when I found SHAKE it didn’t work until I added the N for the spangram. I found the upper words harder. MARACA, RATTLE, HAIRSPRAY, all hidden quite well!
