Oklahoma QB General Booty Enters Transfer Portal

Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma’s General Booty (14) warms up before an NCAA football game between University of Oklahoma (OU) and Iowa State at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.

One of the most promising names in the NIL era is on the move as Oklahoma quarterback General Booty will enter the transfer portal.

Booty, a former walk-on from Tyler Junior College, spent two seasons with the Sooners and made two appearances during his career in Norman but never attempted a pass.

As a member of the 2021 recruiting cycle, Booty graduated from Allen (Tex.) and threw for over 3,400 yards and 27 touchdowns in his senior season.

After going the JUCO route for a season, Booty chose to walk on at Oklahoma rather than take scholarship offers elsewhere, and while it didn’t correlate to much playing time, it certainly paid off for Booty in the NIL game.

Playing quarterback at the same school that produced Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, Sam Bradford, and Jason White, tends to put you in the spotlight, even if you aren’t the starter.

Booty capitalized on that with some fantastic NIL opportunities, including his partnership with Rock ‘Em Socks, a men’s underwear brand, to launch his own brand of underwear.

With Jackson Arnold assuming the starting role after Dillon Gabriel’s departure, the chance for Booty to rise far enough up the depth chart to see the field was increasingly small. Behind Jackson, FAU transfer Casey Thompson and true freshman Michael Hawkins seem to have the inside track to assume the backup role.

Now, Booty will hope to find more playing time to finish out his final two years of eligibility somewhere other than Norman.
