Ann Booty praised the introduction of a new service which runs from Marks Tey to Stane Retail Park after Hedingham and Chambers launched its C70 route.
But Mrs Booty, 72, said people need to make sure it is used by as many people as possible so the service is kept on.
She said: The new service is fantastic, and I can catch it from Godman’s Lane, but coming back, there are times when I am the only person on the bus.
“If people don’t use it, it’s not going to survive.”
Mrs Booty, of Hawlmark End, had previously helped force First Essex into a U-turn when they cut its 370 service into Colchester from one bus every hour to two buses a day.
The operator then introduced its 82 service, allowing her to get into the city centre again.
But she added publicity for bus services is essential to ensure they don’t get cut in the first place.
She continued: “I think the C70 is a fantastic service, so as much information needs to go out there as possible.
“At last I have freedom – I’m able to shop at Marks and Spencer.
“There are times I have a thoroughly good morning and it is all down to the new bus service.”
