Disney has shared the official trailer for Percy Jacksons and the Olympians ahead of its December 20 premiere date.
The hefty two minute trailer, below, gives fans the best look yet at the highly anticipated series, showing off the new cast of characters starring in the adaptation of Rick Riordan’s beloved young adult novel series that blends Greek myth with modern day America.
“The stories I have told you about Greek gods and monsters, they are real,” says Percy’s mother in a monologue that opens the trailer. “You are a half-blood, and half-bloods are not safe in the world.”
Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the story of Percy as he, and a swarm of vile monsters and other baddies, discover his father was a god of Greek myth. The 12-year-old must travel to Camp Half-Blood to live and train with the offspring of other Olympians, but soon finds himself at the centre of an evil plot where he’s accused of stealing Zeus’s famous Master Bolt.
The trailer shows Percy, played by Walker Scobell, teaming up with Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, played by Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri respectively, as the trio begin their journey to prove Percy’s innocence and restore balance to the gods and, by extension, the world itself.
Disney released the debut trailer for its new Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation in 2022, but the series was first announced in 2020 and finally hits Disney+ in December.
