Popular children’s book to be brought to life at County Durham theatre

The Baddies, based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, will be performed at Gala Durham from Tuesday, February 25, to Thursday, February 27.

The show tells the story of the world’s worst baddies, including a witch, a troll, and an ancient ghost, who try to scare a girl.

Directed and choreographed by Katie Beard, with songs by Joe Stilgoe, The Baddies promises to be a ‘laugh-out-loud riot for all the family’.(Image: Mark Senior)

The book has been adapted for the stage by David Greig and Jackie Crichton and co-produced alongside Freckle Productions, who are responsible for stage successes including Stick Man and Zog and the Flying Doctors.

Councillor Elizabeth Scott, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “We can’t wait to welcome The Baddies to Gala Durham next week.

“This fantastic show offers fun for all the family and brings a wonderful story to life on stage.

“With performances at various times across the three days, it’s a wonderful way for families to spend some quality time together and of course, inspire a whole new generation of theatre-goers.

“We want to ensure culture is accessible for all ages here in County Durham, and what better way to start than with this Julia Donaldson classic.”
