Massive print sizes were laid out on tables with protective film coverings outside Panther Plaza. Two black bookshelves of postcards advertising “6 for $10” were next to a tent stand. The tent read out, “Poster Invasion”, with a galaxy themed background and a green alien.
Sitting at a table underneath the tent with a bunch of posters is Mark Garcia, a representative of the tour Poster Invasion is on.
Poster Invasion is a female owned company based out of South Carolina. It’s a social enterprise where they bring artists and posters on campus, nationwide.
“Anything from music to art, to hip-hop, movies and different posters from contracted artists that we have. We sell their art so they can get exposure nationwide, since they’re artists from all over the world,” Garcia said.
Poster Invasion was founded in 2019 by Mandi Van Hill, who is a graduate from UNC Chapel Hill business school and is a social entrepreneur. She wanted to bring the work of young artists to their generation in print form and make the poster sale a space focused on diversity, inclusion, and representation.
“This is held once a year. Actually, this is our first time here at Florida Tech. We try to have it every semester, nationwide on campuses, but we look forward to coming back every fall for the incoming freshman and the start of a new year,” Garcia said.
As far as improvements go, Garcia says being inside could be an improvement.
Poster Invasion hopes that students here are excited to come to school to decorate their own dorms, their own space and be excited for the new year.
“The other campuses that we have set foot in before are always expecting us back with new posters,” said Garcia.
Poster Invasion also loves poster requests. They have a suggestion box for every school and they like to fulfill the request of the students at that school, according to Garcia.
“This is our first tour, so the tour has been going on for five years. We’re halfway through our tour,” said Garcia.
Poster Invasion is the first female led and founded company to exist in this space and it was Hill’s dream to expand Poster Invasion nationwide. Since 2019, the company has grown and now works with 100s of universities in 44 states.
