After a stint with a Southern hip-hop group, Nelly’s solo career began in 2000 with his debut album, “Country Grammar.” His best-selling album to date, it produced two Top 10 hits — the title track and “Ride Wit Me.” His followup album, “Nellyville” spawned the No. 1 singles “Hot in Herre” and “Dilemma” (featuring Kelly Rowland), as well as the Top 5 hit “Air Force Ones.”
Singer Ashanti — who dated Nelly from 2003 to 2013 and reunited with him this year — was discovered and signed as a teenager in 2002. The same year, she collaborated with Fat Joe on “What’s Luv?” and with Ja Rule on the No. 1 hit “Always on Time.” She also was the first female artist to hold the top two positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart at the same time with “Foolish” and “What’s Luv?”
In addition to “Always on Time,” Ja Rule partnered with Ashanti on “Mesmerize” and “Wonderful.” His numerous Top 20 hits include “Between Me and You” featuring Christina Milian and two team-ups with Jennifer Lopez, “I’m Real (Murder Remix)” and “Ain’t It Funny.”
