The course will focus on the parallels between Swift’s lyrics and the works of other female artists such as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Dolly Parton.
Each week students will be expected to write on themes like old flames, infidelity, aging and double standards.
Students will be expected to write two discussion posts, an introduction and an analysis of themes. Students will also see ‘On Your Feet!’ a musical about Gloria Estefan.
At the end of the semester, students will partner to create a final project of their choosing.
UF isn’t alone. An article from USA Today says schools like Ghent University in Belgium, University of Texas at Austin, New York University and Stanford have Swiftie courses as well.
