Report: General Booty to be named starting QB at Louisiana-Monroe

Oklahoma’s New Era: SEC Transition, Jackson Arnold’s Impact, and Defensive Game-Changers

General Booty is expected to be named the starting quarterback at Louisiana-Monroe, according to a report from Matt Zenitz. He spent the last two years at Oklahoma before entering the transfer portal.

Booty only played in two games during his time at OU, but didn’t record a stat. Last year, he made is only appearance in the season opener against Arkansas State, and he entered the portal in May as the spring transfer window was about to close.

Booty started his college football career at the JUCO level at Tyler Junior College. He topped the 3,000-yard mark and threw for 25 touchdowns in 2021 before taking his talents to Norman.

Although he’s not at Oklahoma anymore, Booty is still going to get ready to face one of the Sooners’ biggest rivals. Louisiana-Monroe takes on Texas on Sept. 21, meaning he’ll get to face a familiar opponent at DKR.

After Booty entered the transfer portal, multiple Group of Five programs reached out, he told On3’s Pete Nakos. It wound up becoming a battle between Louisiana-Monroe and Samford for the former JUCO standout.

“The fun thing about General Booty too is, like, he’s a baller,” Nakos said on May 3. “He threw for 3,000 yards at Tyler Junior College before he got to Oklahoma. This guy is a baller. Now I guess we’re going to have a battle over Samford and Louisiana-Monroe.”

One Power Five program, however, ended up making contact with Booty during his recruitment. Nakos reported Iowa expressed interest in him to be a backup to Cade McNamara this season before competing for the starting job before the 2025 season.

Ultimately, ULM won out, and Booty will now become the starter for the Warhawks. He beat out Reese Mooney and Hunter Herring for the job, and will get the first reps under center when the season begins against Jackson State.

General Booty is also one of the best-known names in college football. During his two years at OU, he became an NIL star, notably launching an underwear collection with Rock ‘Em Socks last season. In fact, On3’s Andy Staples wondered if Booty could further capitalize in the space with ULM, especially if he won the quarterback battle.

“He just needs a chance to play. Like, once he’s starting, he’s QB1 somewhere? Like, the NIL market on that team just goes through the roof,” Staples said. “So, whether he’s a ULM Warhawk, a Samford Bulldog, a Tulsa Hurricane? Like, whatever it is, that will be a boom to that particular program. Imagine being the center snapping to General Booty? Like, there has to be some NIL dollars in that!”
