Just when we thought the time for rich oxblood nails had arrived, Rihanna proved that there’s nothing fresher than eschewing all the rules and extending that summer vibe with a butter yellow manicure.
The Fenty Beauty founder made an appearance in Selfridges yesterday to celebrate the launch of Fenty Hair, an extension of her wildly successful beauty empire.
To match her pale lemon ensemble, celebrity manicurist Jenny Longworth (she also tends to the hands of one Harry Styles) created a ‘melted butter pastel yellow chromies’ look using The Gel Bottle’s Queen Bee gel nail polish with a layer of the Iced Chrome Pigment before adding a layer of Extreme Shine top coat for a camera-ready finish.

Butter yellow nails took off this summer when the hue made waves within the fashion circuit. For minimalists who often find themselves sporting a clean manicure, this gentle shade is an easy way to embrace colour without overwhelming the senses. Hailey Bieber and Jennifer Lopez were both spotted with milky shades of buttercup on their fingertips. RiRi’s subtle chrome finish lent subtle glamour to the look.
Although pastels are often associated with the spring and summer months, RiRi proves that there is something cosy and comforting about a creamy manicure in the autumn. It feels softer than burgundy tones and if you’re someone whose wardrobe is filled with darker hues, pale manicures can inject a hint of lightness.
To offset the sorbet colour palette, make-up artist Priscilla Ono opted for rich, chocolatey tones on the eyes and lips. She used Fenty Beauty Snap Shadows palette in Cool Neutrals across the eyelids paired with a combination of Trace’d Out Pencil Lip Liner in Extra Thigh and Gloss Bomb Gloss Stick in ‘Blaz’d Donut’ on the lips.
If you ever needed a sign to embrace pretty pastels in autumn, this is it.
