Salt-N-Pepa Become First Female Rappers With Action Figures

Salt-N-Pepa have much to celebrate as they reach another impressive career milestone: their very own action figures.

On Wednesday (May 29), Variety announced that the iconic Hip Hop duo, known for hits like “My Mic Sounds Nice,” and “Tramp,” is slated to be honored by Super7. The San Francisco-based pop culture collectible manufacturer has released a two-pack of action figures, capturing Salt-N-Pepa’s classic looks from their breakthrough ‘Push It’ music video.”

Released in 1987, “Push It” skyrocketed past the A-side track “Tramp,” selling nearly 1.5 million copies worldwide and ultimately scored a coveted Grammy nomination. The figures’ eight-ball jackets are an epic throwback to the iconic looks worn by the group in their “Push It” video and on the cover of their 1988 hit single, “Shake Your Thang,” cementing their status as style icons.

Take a first look at the action figures below.

“In 1987, Salt-N-Pepa became the first female hip-hop act to achieve platinum status and have gone on to become icons of the industry as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop!,” the company wrote in an announcement post shared via Instagram. “This Salt-N-Pepa ReAction Figure 2-pack is inspired by the duo’s looks from their first hit music video “Push It” and includes a pair of microphone accessories,” they added, prompting users to navigate to their website for further information.

Speaking on their overall selection process, a Super7 spokesperson told the outlet: “We aim to celebrate artists who have significantly influenced the music industry, pop culture, and our own lives. We collaborate with the artist or their representatives to decide what era to celebrate, such as an album or music video, and what form factor and stylization would be appropriate.”

Salt-N-Pepa join the ranks of Outkast, Run-D.M.C., and the Beastie Boys, all of whom have received the Super7 set treatment.
