To quote manicurist Julia Diogo, “it’s snuggle season”, and if that isn’t a sign to switch your pale nails for a deeper and cosier shade, then what is? Sofia Richie clearly got the memo, having shown off a deep chocolate brown on her fingertips as she stepped out for an event over the weekend.
“Love the nail colour,” wrote celebrity manicurist, Betina Goldstein, in the comments on Sofia’s Instagram snap, while in the Vogue office team beauty agreed that, while chocolate brown isn’t necessarily the most obvious choice, it is one of the most universally flattering shades – on all skin tones. Other celebrity fans of the look include Kendall Jenner and Lily James.
To recreate the look at home, Diogo loves BioSculpture’s gel polish in Courtney, which is a super dark, velvety brown, as well as the brand’s lighter Sunset Boulevard. Nails Inc’s Keep It Tonal Nail Polish Set is another way to tap into the chocolate mood, offering four separate shades, from latté to deeper brown. We mustn’t forget Hermès’s luxurious Les Mains Nail Enamel in 95 Brun Bistre, a rich coffee shade that’s perfect for autumn fingertips.
While the chocolate manicure is best worn as a block colour with a high-shine top coat, nail art lovers might want to experiment with detailing on top (check out Goldstein’s brown tartan nails below). Undeniably effective, this is the fiddly option, so best left to a professional to apply.
