David Banner presented singer, rapper, and music veteran with the “Soul Train Awards” 2023 “Legend Award.”
The “Rapper Turnt Singer” musician revealed that David Banner had become his life coach after gathering the courage to ask for help in his personal struggle. He thanked his friend, stating, “The words he gave me within those three hours of us talking sent a whole different trajectory of just where my life was heading.”
Pain also thanked his wife, Amber Najm, for her longtime support and dealing with the “terrible” internet throughout his career and for “dealing with T-Pain as well as Faheem [Rashad Najm] is a feat I haven’t figured out yet my damn self, so, thank you, baby.”
The Florida native joked that receiving a Legends award at 39 “Is a little weird, maybe a little early.” He added. I feel like I got two or three more songs that I could do.” Pain spoke to aspiring artists, encouraging them not to base their goals solely on accolades and to ignore the opinions of others. “I want y’all to be who you are unapologetically, and I want y’all to be who you ever wanted to be,” he added.
Pain later returned to the stage for an electrifying performance featuring a medley of hits, including “Got Money,” “Booty Wurk,” “Good Life,” and more.
