Among the different kinds of nail shapes, stiletto nails are one of the most eye-catching. Not only is the long pointed shape feminine and fierce, it also leaves plenty of room for nail designs and nail art. If you’ve tried longer styles like coffin nails and almond nails, you’ll definitely be comfortable branching out with this pointy shape.
What are stiletto nails?
As the name implies, stiletto nails have pointed tips that call to mind the look of stiletto heels. “Stiletto nails are a nail shape with a long, pointed tip, resembling a stiletto heel,” says Lily Nguyen, celebrity manicurist and founder of Labo Beauté Salon. “They are typically created by shaping natural nails into a tapered point or by applying nail extensions and then filing them into a sharp, elongated shape. Acrylics or gel extensions are typically used to achieve this look since they provide further strength and durability, and this look tends to be done on long nails.”
Sally Hansen brand ambassador Hannah Lee agrees, adding that stiletto nails especially suit narrow nail beds. Lee also cautions that you’ll want to take good care of your stiletto nails and avoid putting unnecessary stress on them. “Since stilettos are longer and done mainly with acrylics, you want to make sure you care for them so they last, and don’t use them as tools,” she says. “Rhinestone designs are great for this shape since you have a lot of space to work with.”
What is the difference between almond and stiletto nails?
Think of stiletto nails as almond nails’ cooler, edgier cousin. “Almond nails have a rounded, tapered shape that mimics the shape of an almond, making them softer and more natural-looking,” says Nguyen.
Nguyen recommends the style if you’re looking to make a bold statement. It’s no wonder the nail shape is a favorite among pop stars like Rihanna, Billie Eilish, and Cardi B. “Stiletto nails are sharper and more extreme in their taper, coming to a precise point. Stiletto nails tend to be more dramatic and high-fashion compared to almond nails.”
How much do stiletto nails cost?
“The price varies depending on location, salon, and the type of material used—gel nails, acrylic nails, or dip nails,” says Ngyuen. “I would say basic stiletto nails would range around $65 to $85 or so, and then stiletto nails with intricate designs, nail art, or extra-long extensions would be around $90 to $150 or more.”
