Tavia Mapp-Deterville Honors Women’s Rap With Futuristic Femme

The annual SXSW Music Festival has long served as an important platform for musicians to showcase their work to a global audience. For six consecutive years, Brooklyn’s Tavia Mapp-Deterville has participated in the festival to honor women in hip-hop. Her annual Futuristic Femme Showcase has become a festival highlight, recognizing the genre’s past, present, and future with an all-female lineup.

“Over the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of curating a space that celebrates the talent, resilience, and innovation of women in music,” says established author, publicist, and women’s advocate. “Every year, we bring forward incredible artists who are redefining the industry, and 2024 is no exception. We’re thrilled to lead with a lineup of powerhouse performers who continue to push boundaries and inspire.”

Past headliners include some of the brightest stars in New York hip-hop, such as Lola Brooke, Tina (formerly known as Hoodcelebrity), and Bianca Bonnie. Renni Rucci, Omerta, and Stunna Girl are among the notable women who have performed over the years. From discovering future superstars to creating future collaborations, the showcase has become a cornerstone for both emerging and established female artists across genres.

This year’s headliners, K Carbon and Lebra Jolie, took command of the stage with their distinctive styles and undeniable presence. K Carbon, known for the hit songs “Wrong One” and “Shabooya,” brought her exciting presence to the lineup.

Lebra Jolie’s seamless blend of R&B and hip-hop in her breakout hits “Give Me Some” and “Get Me Hype” has gained worldwide attention, adding a compelling depth to the evening’s showcase. The lineup included The Voice‘s Serenity Arce, Native American singer-songwriter Stella Standingbear, Flo Rida’s IMG First Lady Oya Baby, Karlae, Nae Aimee, and OnlyHeaven.

Every performer captivated the audience with an unforgettable set that radiated creativity, empowerment, and exceptional artistry. The event contributed to Tavia’s already successful 2025, as she was recently announced as the newest member of the XXL Awards Board in February.

The showcase would be supported by female-narrated panels about succeeding in music and business. The Texas showcase will continue to serve as a platform at SXSW for years to come, promising to be larger than the previous year.

For Tavia Mapp-Deterville, the Futuristic Femme showcase will continue to be a vital platform for both emerging and established female recording artists to connect, inspire, and shine on what inevitably will be one of industry’s biggest stages.
