Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, declared assets of more than $400 million, including more than 200 designer handbags worth a total of more than $2 million and at least 75 luxury watches valued at nearly $5 million, his party, Pheu Thai, said in a statement, citing Channel News Asia.
The declaration was submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in accordance with the regulations in force in the Southeast Asian country. The declared assets include investments of approximately 319 million dollars, deposits and cash of 29 million, 75 watches worth almost 5 million, 217 designer bags worth 2,21 million.
Paetongtarn’s father, the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has a net worth of $2,1 billion, according to “Forbes,” which ranks him tenth among the richest people in Thailand. Thanks to the wealth he accumulated with the telecom giant Shin Corp, Thaksin launched his political career and his family remained influential even during his years of exile after the coup that deposed him.
The predecessor of Paetongtarn, Srettha Thavisin, He had instead declared assets of nearly $29 million before his removal by the Constitutional Court last August.
