After a five-year wait that felt like a lifetime, The Batman swooped in last year with Robert Pattinson serving us a Batman that’s as brooding as he is brilliant. And it was just the start.
The Batman – or as I like to refer to it, one of the best movies made in a long time – is indeed getting a sequel! Rejoice!
Those who were skeptical of Robert Pattinson’s ability to pull off Bruce Wayne’s character as he should be are now mostly fans of his portrayal of our favorite Dark Knight. The Batman captivated us all with its amazing showcase of Batman being who he is: a lonely and slightly brooding investigator who works with and sometimes against Gotham City’s police department. His relationship with Catwoman, Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz), and his way of dealing with baddies – everything screamed “Batman from the comics”.
With the movie being such a success and Pattinson’s version of Batman being as accepted and loved as it has been, it only makes sense that we’ll be getting a sequel. But what about the sequel? What are those details that we so crave?
Let’s chat about it, shall we?
What’s the release date for The Batman II?
The Batman Part II is supposed to land in theaters on October 3, 2025. Yep, you read that right – 2025. Producer Dylan Clark has promised the sequel would take less than the five years the first one took to make. Thank you, Mr. Clark – our nails can only take so much biting.
Who’s involved in the making of The Batman II?
Director Matt Reeves and script buddy Mattson Tomlin are currently locked away in their Batcave, working on the sequel. Reeves even called it “really exciting” during an interview with Collider. I mean, if the guy steering the Bat-ship is pumped, we should be as well.
However… The actual filming won’t start until March 2024 due to the ongoing strikes. But no worries – the 2025 release date is still solid, for what it’s worth.
Is there a trailer for The Batman II?
Nope. Given the movie has not yet even begun filming, it should come as no surprise that there is no trailer or promo for The Batman II. Sadly, we aren’t likely to see the movie’s trailer arrive for a while as trailers typically drop within months of a movie’s release.
What’s the plot for The Batman II?
Remember how The Batman left Gotham practically underwater and vulnerable to a full-scale villain party?
The sequel may introduce us to the shady secret society known as the Court of Owls. These guys are the one-percenters of Gotham, and they’ve been pulling the strings there for a very, very long time.
Also, it’s worth noting that both Pattinson and Reeves have previously hinted that Robin – yes, THE Robin – might be making his appearance in the sequel. They’re looking at mixing things up by tying Robin’s origin story to the Court of Owls. Seriously, how cool would that be?
There have also been rumors that Clayface might be featured as the film’s villain.
Who’s the cast for The Batman II?
Robert Pattinson will be returning as our caped crusader, Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Lieutenant Gordon, the amazing Andy Serkis will most likely be there to serve Batman his morning tea as Alfred, and Zoë Kravitz could very well be back as Catwoman.
Colin Farrell as The Penguin, who’s getting his HBO Max spinoff, would definitely waddle back into Gotham’s criminal scene. Paul Dano’s Riddler could be pulling strings from his Arkham cell, possibly with Barry Keoghan’s Joker. And there’s also some buzz about Clayface joining the villain list.
In short, The Batman 2 is shaping up to be pretty epic. With the promise of new characters, a complicated, darker Gotham, and the same team that brought us the first movie, this sequel seems very much worth the lengthy wait.
