I’ve never been one to love my butt. Sure, my legs are sculpted from years of running and cycling, my arms and shoulders are fairly toned, and my abs aren’t too bad considering I’ve given birth to twins. But my booty? Let’s just say I’m more of a “tie a sweater around the waist” kinda gal if I’m heading out wearing leggings.
That doesn’t mean I don’t cast an envious glance at someone else’s well-defined glutes. I’ve caught myself staring in amazement at the tush making its way along the running path in front of me, wondering just how its owner was able to get such a perfect lift.
So when I was given the chance to wear-test the new Seamless Scrunch leggings from Fabletics, I jumped at the opportunity. After all, they are part of the new By Khloé collection, created with input from the very bootylish Khloé Kardashian, the fitness enthusiast, entrepreneur, and television star whose own backside is the stuff of social media legend.
“I’ve always wanted to be more hands-on with the design process, and with this new collection Fabletics gave me the opportunity to create two new iconic leggings,” Kardashian shared. “Whether you’re looking for a subtle sculpt or a more dramatic lift, Fabletics’ new booty-scrunch technology will give you the confidence to feel your best.”
I wasn’t sure exactly what she meant by “booty scrunch,” I admit—but it sounded like something I could use. (The other leggings in the collection are the PureLuxe TLC, which have a more subtle, natural-looking lift with “hidden scrunch technology.”) When the package containing my new leggings arrived, I eagerly pulled them out to see what this shape-enhancing tech was all about—and soon discovered they were like nothing I had ever worn.
On The Run
Have you ever worn a thong and thought, Wow, this would look really great if I had a little more lift and a little less gravity? That’s sort of the concept behind the booty-scrunch design. The center seam of the backside is gathered together in a rear ruching that helps to more clearly define each cheek; the side panels provide a zoned glute compression that lifts and smooths everything out. “We engineered all the compression up the leg that gives a lift in your booty, while the scrunch technology defines a beautiful, round shape,” explains Kate Williams, Fabletics’ vice president of women’s design.
It makes a lot more sense when you put them on. The first time I did was before heading out for a run; I did a little quick twirl before the mirror to admire the fit before lacing up my shoes. Out in the park, I appreciated how well they moved with every step I took—no falling down or riding up, just seamless support.
At The Gym
The weight room is often where workout clothes face their biggest test, and I’m not just talking about the occasionally judgy glances you get from your fellow gym-goers. But I felt pretty self-assured marching onto the workout floor in my new leggings—going so far as to wear a cropped top in place of my usual long tank.
One of the things I loved, as I squatted, deadlifted, lunged, and curled my way through leg day, was the way these leggings felt like a second skin—soft and totally comfortable. (They’re made from a recycled-nylon fiber that feels amazing.)
Atop The Mat
The next day, my friend convinced me to join her in a yoga flow class—not typically my forte. But it is where one (and one’s clothes) must move through the many twists, turns, and inversions that are part of the practice.
In the class, I found the leggings’ high-waisted design and contoured waistband especially helpful, keeping everything perfectly in place. I was halfway into my first sun-salutation sequence, in a downward dog with my derriére in the air, when I caught myself in the mirror and thought, Not bad!
Out And About
Weekends are made for comfortable clothes like leggings, especially on days when your to-do list consists of running errands, walking the dog, and hitting the coffee shop for a little pick-me-up. Normally, this is exactly when I grab that long-sleeve top to tie around my waist. But after a week of wear-testing the Seamless Scrunch leggings, I was feeling much more positive about my rear view. So I decided to forgo the usual camouflage and let my newly lifted backside speak for itself.
Am I someone who now loves my bum? On most days, I’d say not really. But when wearing what I now think of as my magic leggings, I feel at least a little more of that Kardashian confidence—and that’s a great start.
