There’s always room for experimental, embellished eyes and traffic-stopping bright lips on the red carpet, but the Duchess of Sussex just proved that the simplest looks can make just as big an impact.
Attending the 2023 Variety Power Of Women gala in LA yesterday, Meghan – who is an alumni of Variety‘s Power Of Women issue – spoke about the importance of supporting women in entertainment, saying: “This industry is so special, you see how many women use the platform that they have and just channel it for good. The more we support each other, the more it amplifies the work, amplifies the community.”
The royal graced the event in a neutral Proenza Schouler floor-grazing dress and complemented the ensemble with a beauty look that felt especially pared-back for the duchess, who’s often seen with a smokey eye and glowing, highlighted skin.
While she doesn’t appear any less radiant, the luminosity of Meghan’s complexion seems come from within rather than a highlighter compact. It’s clean skin that feels fresh and healthy; a complexion that comes from a regimented protocol of facials (back in 2021, the duchess named Kate Somerville and Joanna Vargas as her go-to experts on her site, The Tig) and plenty of that Californian sunshine.
The soft matte, velvety finish feels polished while the smallest amount of bronzer and peachy blush adds subtle definition without obliterating her freckles. A sheer liquid formula such as Glossier Solar Paint and Vieve Sunset Blush Balm will do the trick. Simply apply two to three dots and buff in with fingers or a medium-dense brush (try Real Techniques Soft Sculpting Brush).
Meghan’s eye make-up is relatively low-key, too, with lots of lashes and just a hint of eyeliner. Instead, her make-up artist paid extra attention to arches to anchor the complexion and finished the look with the duchess’ signature neutral lip. The slick ballerina bun is the perfect updo to the overall chic, understated vibe.
Minimalists, take note.
