The Princess of Wales stepped out in typically elegant style last night, attending the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Giving us all a dose of party-season dressing inspiration, the royal wore a sleek Safiyaa evening gown with exaggerated trailing sleeves and peaked shoulders. She paired her teal dress with matching suede court shoes and a metallic minaudière.
Kate attended alongside her husband, Prince William, who also dressed up for the special occasion in a classic black tuxedo.
Kate got into the festive spirit by adding some shimmering jewellery to her look. She styled her gown with an impressive diamond necklace and matching earrings, bracelet and, of course, her diamond and sapphire engagement ring.
The royal’s trademark brunette tresses look to have had a rich, chocolatey update for the winter season; she debuted a noticeably darker (and incredibly glossy) shade of brown on the red carpet, with her classic curls swapped for a softer, more modern wave. In the make-up department, she kept things fresh and peachy, with a rosy blusher and an orange-tinted lip.
Kate is a fan of a caped dress, having worn a similar Jenny Packham style in white to a state banquet last year. She also stepped out in a festive red bow-festooned cape dress just last month, and memorably wore a gold sequinned version to the James Bond No Time To Die premiere.
And she’s not the only one who knows that a caped dress is a flattering and timeless option for more formal occasions – it’s particularly popular with royal women: Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex has also worn several similar styles in the past – she wore a red Safiyaa style in 2020 and another Safiyaa gown in 2018 – as has Queen Letizia of Spain in red Stella McCartney and Princess Charlene of Monaco in a green Charlene’s Marchesa Notte gown.
