The new year is a chance to start fresh.
It’s the perfect time to set goals and try new things in all areas of your life, including your style.
Seasonal nail designs are a fun and easy way to instantly look more fashionable.
Which is why we are not surprised Google searches for ‘new year nails’ have risen by 47.2% on TikTok.
Fresha, the leading marketplace platform for beauty and wellness, exclusively spoke with April Arabella, to weigh in on what’s to come.
April offers insight into the colors, shapes, and designs that will dominate the scene in 2025.
According to the Cherry Bomb Nails technician, everything from metallics to minimalist designs are in.
Read on for eight nail trends to try in 2025.
CHROME FINISHES
‘In 2025, we’ll see a strong move toward bold designs,’ says April.
‘Expect to see a lot of chrome and metallic nails, with shades like silver, gold, and even holographic finishes making their way into mainstream fashion.
‘Hailey Bieber has been rocking the chrome look quite frequently over the past few months, a sign that this trend isn’t slowing down for 2025.’
Chrome nails come in a variety of colors, including pink, blue, purple and multi-color.
To achieve the look, a special chrome powder is applied over a base color to create a reflective finish.
MINIMALISM AND GEOMETRIC SHAPES
‘Minimalist nail art will also continue to dominate with subtle geometric designs and negative space manicures,’ says April.
Inverted tips are a classic French manicure turned upside down, where the colored line is painted along the cuticle.
JEWEL TONES
‘For 2025, deep jewel tones are set to take over, with rich emerald greens, royal purples, and sapphire blues growing in popularity,’ says April.
‘Emerald green has been everywhere since the release of Wicked, and we expect to see the Elphaba influence continuing into the new year!’
Cynthia Erivo is considered a nail trailblazer, often using her talons as a complement to her distinctive style.
The star continually pushes boundaries in nail art with unique embellishments, vibrant colors and daring designs.
WARM NEAUTRALS
According to April, ‘A rise is also predicted for warm neutral colors like soft taupe, caramel, and even a touch of burnt orange at the start of the year, bringing a cozy and earthy vibe to the winter season.’
This trend is in line with Pantone’s Color of the Year: Mocha Mouse.
BEJEWELED TOUCHES
Whether you’re heading to a glamorous NYE party or a casual dinner, bejeweled nails instantly add a touch of magic to an outfit.
Designer Marc Jacobs has been embracing long and decorative nails since 2020.
Coordinating his nail designs with his outfits, his nails are a seamless extension of his iconic style.
At the 2024 Met Gala celebrating “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, the fashion icon showcased black nails embellished with large green rhinestones.
CELEB NSPO
Marc Jacobs isn’t the only public figure to inspire nail trends.
According to April, Hailey Beiber and Zendaya’s sleek, metallics nails and subtle geometric designs are setting the tone for 2025.
‘Their influence continues to spark interest in experimental but elegant nail styles,’ she says.
‘Social media trends, particularly on Instagram and TikTok, are also contributing to this shift, as more people are seeing inspiring nail design content.’
FUNCTIONAL LENGTHS
‘Long coffin nails remain a favorite, offering a modern and elegant look, while shorter, rounded shapes like oval nails are gaining traction for their practicality and timeless appeal, providing something for everyone,’ shares April.
‘The edgy stiletto nail is also making a statement for those who want to embrace drama.
‘Expect these shapes to be paired with bold and contrasting colors for maximum impact!’
DEEP FRENCH TIPS
An evolution of the classic French manicure, this style feature exaggerated smile lines, offering a modern twist on a timeless favorite.
It makes the tips of the nails appear longer and slimmer.
While the tip is painted white, the rest of the nail is pink or nude.
Try the trends at home:
April suggests: ‘You can start by experimenting with simple designs like a two-tone French tip or creating minimalist geometric patterns with nail tape.
‘Whether you’re testing out a bold new color or a understated design, playing around at home will give you the confidence to rock these trends when you book your next nail salon appointment.
