Thieves broke into a business on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay early Monday, making off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, Boston police said.
Surveillance images from inside the fashionable Valentino Store on Newbury Street show two men snatching handbags.
According to the police report, the thieves broke into the boutique around 3:30 a.m. by throwing a brick through the window. Police said they stole about 20 luxury handbags, worth about $30,000 in total.
“That is very disrespectful,” said Valentino shopper Samantha Burke. “And it’s beautiful in there. Why would you disrupt that sort of place?”
“They call them victimless crimes, but it’s unsettling people do that,” said Valentino shopper Mary Lou Lesaffre.
This isn’t the first time high-end boutiques in the Back Bay have been hit this year.
In March, a car was used to crash through the Chanel Store – the suspects stole almost two dozen handbags. A few months later, in July, thieves used a sledgehammer to smash the showcases at the luxury watch retailer Audemars Piguet.
