For the past five years Waco Texas has been on fire with breakout artists Wacotron, Hotboy wes and Moneymade nero and 2rawqua. These four artists have shown the world that the small college town located between Dallas and Houston has big city talent when it comes to music. Over the past few years I, the owner of female hiphop, have been watching the Waco music scene closely and seeing the ups and downs of the industry on these new artists. Overall the best things about the new discoveries of the talent in Waco is that the industry has allowed us through the door. Now with movement ushers in New talented artists. Introducing some new artists you need to pay attention too. First up is Big Yayo
I found big Yayo a year ago on Iconic Visuals Youtube page, a videographer based in Waco,Texas. What caught my eye about Big Yayo is his flow and punch lines. He reminds me of mystical a successful rapper once signed to no limit in 90s and early 2000s with his raspy voice and rough adlibs. Some songs that showcase his talents are Slatt, Da B.O.A.T, and Family guy. If Big Yayo keeps it up I do see him as another breakout artists out of Waco.
Another artist I’ve been watching close in Waco is Lil4. Lil4 will hope on any beat and flow over it. He caught my attention with his hit single “Taxing” featuring Hotboy Wes and MTB Dee. This song caught my attention because lil 4 was going bar for bar with Hotboy Wes with his verse. Also Lil4 can tell a story in his raps not quite like story telling more like giving his Pov on what he sees day to day. Lil4 was rapping like he had something to prove, and he did just that. I feel like Lil4 will be another breakout artist for Waco, Texas. Check out his songs below.
Another artist I’ve been watching is LihhDarin1. What caught my eye is he likes to rap over these melodic beats. Which is different for his generation of hip hop artist because now in days its all about the heavy trap and drill type beats, but LihhDarin1 songs have a smooth 808 sound on most his songs that makes it easier for a listener to nod their heads and lay back and cruise too. One my favorite songs by him is “Having” the sample he used reminds me a Curtis Mayfield how he tells stories about his life and what goes on in Waco from his perspective. LihhDarin1 is definitely another artist that will break out in Waco.
Overall Waco has a bright future when it comes to hip hop. With the rawness of the city and authentic vibes and storytelling of the artists, I’m excited what else Waco has to offer with the new generation of artists. Who do you think will be a breakout artists for Waco Gen Z movement.
