Walker ‘distracted by Spanish baddie in crowd’ as star falls asleep for goal

Nico Williams has fired Spain ahead 69 seconds into the second half of the Euro 2024 final.

And England fans have joked that Kyle Walker, who was caught out of postion for the strike, was distracted by a ‘baddie’ in the crowd. Williams found himself in acres of space when Lamine Yamal was able to weave the ball out to the left flank.

Walker had drifted inside, leaving Williams with an open hit at Jordan Pickford’s goal. And the Everton shot-stopper couldn’t do anything to stop Williams from tucking the ball into the far corner of the net – sending Spain ahead in the final.

“Walker saw a Spanish baddie in the crowd and got distracted,” one fan sighed. While a second said: “Why the hell is Kyle Walker refusing to mark Nico Williams?”

“Kyle Walker again with poor defending, criminal how Williams is left with that much space. Second half has been a disaster so far, Palmer and Watkins needed badly,” a third pleaded. And another added: “Kyle Walker is easily the most one dimensional player in football history…”

Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain

After a snoozefest of a first-half, the Three Lions were all of a sudden on the ropes – and England were almost two behind when Dani Olmo found himself in the same postion of Williams. However, Olmo’s shot went just past Pickford’s post.

Spain were on the offensive as England dropped deeper and deeper into their penalty area – and Williams came close again, drawing out a save from a long ranged effort from Pickford.

Cole Palmer fired England level, but it was ultimately heartbreak after Mikel Oyarzabal poked the ball past Pickford.
