Texas could be the new No. 1 college football team in the country come Sunday, but the Longhorns are likely going to be without starting quarterback Quinn Ewers for the foreseeable future due to an oblique strain.
So, next Saturday night in Austin, it’ll be a QB showdown of Arch Manning vs. General Booty when the UL Monroe Warhawks visit the Longhorns.
Booty, who transferred to ULM from Oklahoma after the 2023 season, is 19-for-30 passing for 191 yards with a touchdown for the 2-0 Warhawks.
Booty, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, transferred to ULM after two seasons with the Sooners, appearing in two games in relief of Dillon Gabriel but recording no counting statistics.

“I loved the time I have got to spend at OU. The people make that a special place,” Booty told the Shreveport Times in May. “I got to learn from Dillion Gabriel how to attack each game week and prepare. From coach (Brent) Venables, I learned how important it is to establish culture and I will cherish my time I had with all my teammates.”
Manning — the nephew of Super Bowl-winning QBs Peyton and Eli Manning — went 9-for-12 passing for 223 yards and four touchdowns in relief of Ewers on Saturday in a 56-7 win against UTSA.
The severity of Ewers’ injury is not yet known, but his availability for the Red River Rivalry game against the Sooners on Oct. 12 in Dallas could in doubt.
“Remains to be seen kind of the seriousness of that and the length of that, but that’s what it is,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said postgame, according to the Austin American-Statesman. “There’s nothing — you know, we don’t think it’s anything structural or broken.”
