- Los Angeles-based makeup artist Andrea Sanchez, 22, went viral on TikTok
- She revealed her hair struggles after her locks fell out following a root touch-up
- Andrea has not been refunded, despite her hair suffering severe damage
A Los Angeles makeup artist has shared a hair horror story that is sure to make you feel better about your worst hair day.
Beauty pro Andrea Sanchez, 22, has earned viral fame after spending $1,300 on hair extensions and a root touch-up with her regular stylist – only for her tresses to then fall out as a result of severe bleach damage.
The so-called ‘chemical cut’ left Andrea with burnt, super short, hot-pink hair, and the hairdresser refused to give her a full refund.
Andrea revealed the terrible hair experience on TikTok in September and quickly went viral, with followers offering their support.
In one of her videos, the beauty guru explained she was ‘literally crying’ after going for her ‘regular root retouch,’ and coming out with chemically burned hair.
Andrea said it took her a long time to get in for an appointment because her hairstylist was busy, but she thought it ‘would be okay’ because she had longer regrowth.
The makeup artist said ‘the issue is that she put bleach all over my hair, root to end,’ which led to her hair extensions falling out three days later and her hair feeling gummy.
Andrea said she had a little mohawk on top of her head and was left with very little hair two months later.
Plenty of commenters shared their support, with one writing, ‘I feel like nobody understands how traumatizing a chemical cut feels until it happens to them,’ referring to what happens when hair is treated with too much bleach, and becomes weak and breaks off easily.
‘Chemical cut for sure,’ another agreed, explaining, ‘those take forever to grow back out.’ Andrea responded, ‘I know it feels like my hair is growing but I know it’s going to take years for it to get to my shoulders.’
‘That happen to me!’ another follower said, adding they ‘went back to the stylist to show her and she told me “someone is doing brujeria on me,”‘ referencing witchcraft. Others urged her to sue and reveal the hairstylist’s name.
Andrea then shared the experience with her horrified Instagram followers, captioning the Reel: ‘It’s been hard to process that millions of people have seen me at what I feel is one of my lowest moments.’
‘Stuff happens, and unfortunately the beautiful red/pink hair that I once had is gone… but this storm is going to have a beautiful rainbow at the end,’ the makeup artist promised her followers.
Andrea’s Instagram followers were equally encouraging, commenting, ‘I’m not a hair stylist not even a beauty pro, we all know you don’t re bleach the already bleach hair… she really messed up you big time!’ They also urged her to get an attorney.
Andrea then shared her text messages with the hairdresser on TikTok, where she told her that her hair was falling out and didn’t receive much support or even an offer for a full refund.
Instead, the hairdresser appeared to blame Andrea for the bleach problems and explained she didn’t think she was the hairstylist for her anymore.
‘As a hairstylist, she knew from the very beginning she was dead wrong! So sorry this happened to you,’ one follower responded.
‘Crazy how some hairstylists who are the professionals will blame their negligence on their customers. I’m sorry girl I went through the same,’ another TikTok user agreed.
After the months-long stylist saga, Los Angeles-based hairstylist Alfredo Lewis reached out when he saw her TikTok videos after multiple followers begged the hair guru famous for his fixes to help her out.
Luckily, Alfredo was able to completely transform Andrea’s hair with a color correction and later, long, honey brown hair extensions thanks to help from his team.
‘I STILL CANT BELIEVE THIS IS REAL!!! My days after this transformation have been the happiest for me. I couldn’t be more thankful. I never realized how important my hair was to me until I lost most of it,’ the beauty influencer wrote on TikTok.
‘Hair doesn’t define ones beauty, but it is a HUGE part of a women’s identity. Thankful for this wonderful team.’
Alfredo, whose TikTok bio reads, ‘Saving clients from hair disasters one head at a time,’ shared the end of the hair journey on his own TikTok.
The famed fixer declared that her long ‘hair nightmare’ ended up having ‘a happy ending.’
Alfredo explained: ‘After she paid $1,300 for a bleach retouch and extensions: all her hair broke off. A month later we saved hair for free.’
Commenters rejoiced, calling it ‘justice for Andrea’ and writing, ‘this act is restoring humanity.’
Despite the TikTok drama, Andrea still has not been paid back by her original stylist.
