Ahead of Xbox’s planned “vision for the future” podcast, executives including Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond held an internal town hall meeting in which they appeared to confirm, among other things, that a new Call of Duty will be releasing in October.
The meeting, which was held last week, was a broad outline of Xbox’s future intended for employees across Microsoft’s console business. The meeting included assurances that Xbox planned to release a new console, as well as images of Palworld on tablets, TV screens, monitors, and unspecified handheld devices. The meeting was first reported by Inverse.
During the meeting, Spencer reportedly told viewers that it was safe to assume that another Call of Duty would be releasing this October. His comments seemingly confirm the various reports that Call of Duty 2024, which is being developed by Treyarch and is said to be set in the Gulf War, will be out this fall.
Elsewhere, Bond reaffirmed Xbox’s multi-device strategy with promises of “Xbox on every screen.” Xbox has pushed a multi-platform approach through much of the generation via cloud-based streaming solutions. Rumors have also swirled that Xbox is planning a handheld device of its own.
We’ll have a clearer idea of what to expect when Spencer, Booty, and Bond appear on a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast on Thursday, February 15 at 12pm PT. The podcast will provide an update on Xbox’s plans for the future amid multiple reports that Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and potentially other games will be headed to PlayStation and other platforms.
