Hip Hop and fashion go hand-in-hand. So much so that many people think that fashion should be the fifth element of Hip Hop to go along with breaking, DJing, MCing, and graffiti. This year alone, Pharrell has come into his own as the creative director of LV and A$AP Rocky is the creative director of Puma’s F1 partnership.
In the Asian Hip Hop space, when people mention fashion, the first person that anyone thinks of is Yung Raja. The Singaporean rapper can flip it from English to Tamil in an instant, and he also can wear anything from a pink fur shirt to a durag and effortlessly make them look good.
In his latest release, ‘HIGH FASHION,’ Raja goes all out with nearly 10 different fits and the MC just drips with swag. The song is a slow burner about his love for all the labels he can get his hands on.
In a recent interview with VOGUE, Raja said some words about his ambitions that show what kind of superstar he is. “Growing up, I never really felt like there was anybody within my community that I could look up to, and thus I made it a point to try to be a role model that the next generation can look up to. I wish to be able to inspire the next wave of creatives, young individuals growing up in Singapore who wish to make their mark in their respective industries,” Raja said. “I also aim to spread good energy and vibes, to be able to build an inclusive community here that is beyond just music.”
