Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has voiced her concerns about the growing ‘baddies’ trend among female on social media.
The popular filmmaker expressed her worries over the trend, stressing that there’s more to life than flaunting bodies and luxurious lifestyles online.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, Akindele highlighted the importance of content creators delivering positive messages to their audiences, rather than just providing entertainment.
She also urged fans to be mindful of the content they consume.
“I enjoy watching beautiful content, but you have to watch what you churn out. You need to focus on your brand, what you’re selling, what you want people to learn from you,” Akindele stated.
“If you’re an actor or a self-made person, what are you producing? You must influence lives positively with your content. And for those watching, are you watching to be entertained or to learn? When someone flaunts a designer bag in a video, how do you know it’s not borrowed? How can you be sure they’re wealthy? Don’t believe everything on social media.
“I’m very concerned about these so-called baddies. What are you showcasing beyond appearances? We need to see the positive contributions you’re making that people can be proud of. While it’s fine to display fashion, show us what you have to offer intellectually. Are you just a ‘baddie’ in name? Even if you’re a dancer, what else do you bring to the table?”
