Hailey Bieber perfects smart-casual dressing in baggy denim and neon Prada

Hailey Bieber’s fashion sense is one of the most sought-after celebrity aesthetics – and with good reason. Whether she’s channelling the ‘quiet luxury’ trend, perfecting her effortlessly cool street style or showcasing an enviable holiday wardrobe, there are plenty of style cues to take from her and apply to your own wardrobe.

Bieber’s most recent outfit is a shining example of how to do smart-casual dressing. It’s dress code that’s far from new, but one which can cause confusion over what exactly is deemed smart or indeed casual enough. Bieber strikes the perfect balance by pairing two of our favourite luxury labels – Prada and Bottega Veneta – with more casual everyday pieces.

The model and entrepreneur was spotted running errands in LA wearing a silky neon green Prada top and a co-ordinating Bottega Veneta pouch – so far, so ‘smart’ – paired with baggy, low-rise jeans and loafers, both of which rendered the look firmly in the more ‘casual’ camp. Finishing touches came via classic black sunglasses, chunky gold earrings and a simple bangle.

Bieber has long mastered the art of wearing looser fits, without it looking like she’s drowning in fabric. Her secret? Tailoring – even denim. Her jeans are baggy in all the right places, while still hugging her hips, to create a flattering silhouette. Her former stylist, Maeve Reilly, previously shared with Bazaar that tweaking your clothes to fit your body is her number one styling rule.

“Tailoring is so important,” Reilly explains. “When you see a celebrity wearing something, I would say nine times out of ten it’s been tailored to their body to look the best way it can. Not only on the red carpet but for street style as well. Not everything is going to fit off the rack and sometimes it’s just the simplest tweak to completely change the way that something looks.”

“Often with Hailey, I’m looking in the men’s department when I’m shopping for her; there are so many cool brands that are just missing the women’s market,” she explained, of when they used to work together. “I definitely took inspiration for the collection from the pieces that we like from the men’s department and changed it to suit a woman’s body.”

Bieber’s smart-casual ensemble is easy to recreate for yourself: it’s essentially the modern version of ‘jeans and a nice top’.
