Kelly Rowland brought classic glamour to the 2023 Harlem’s Fashion Row Show and Style Awards on Tuesday in New York City, looking to Ashi Studio for her ensemble. The songstress, who received the Fashion Icon of the Year Award at the event, wore a plunging corset dress with a long black velvet skirt and exaggerated dramatic puff sleeves.
Rowland was dressed by Kollin Carter, whose clients also include Victoria Monét and Cardi B. The structural gown was from Ashi Studio’s fall 2023 couture collection, which was the first collection created by a Saudi Arabian designer to be showcased during Paris Fashion Week.
“Ashi spun a more personal narrative with geometric gowns in shapes inspired by perfume bottles, which contrasted with wrap coats and trailing gowns in tactile fabrics like brushed mohair or cobwebby lace,” WWD reported on the collection in July.
Rowland is not only famous for her musical career but also for delivering standout fashion looks. In June, to the 2023 Essence Festival of Culture, Rowland wore a jumpsuit from Roberto Cavalli’s resort 2024 collection. To the “Babylon” global premiere screening in December, the singer donned a red ethereal-themed Iris Van Herpen gown from the brand’s spring 2021 couture collection.
Held during New York Fashion Week, the Harlem’s Fashion Row Show and Style Awards recognized notable Black designers, editors and showcased the latest collections from Nicole Benefield, Aaron Potts and Megan Renee. This year’s event, held at the historic Apollo Theater in New York City, commemorated the 50th anniversary of hip hop and honored A$AP Rocky with the Virgil Abloh Award.
