Lily James Welcomes Autumn With A Vino-Red Nail

While the end-of-summer heatwave might be playing havoc with your autumn outfit plans, it hasn’t stopped Lily James from tapping into the spirit of cosy season. Autumn is traditionally associated with a warmer palette – think burnished reds, amber, berry tones and rich, deep colours – which can feel like a big departure from summer’s lighter hues. Despite the heat, James opted for an autumn classic for her latest manicure.

We’re calling it “vino red”. A rich, inky oxblood shade, vino red feels classic and sexy all at once, and is the perfect way to make a statement on your fingertips, without the need for nail art. Painted (by manicurist Michelle Class) onto Lily’s oval nails, the shade was complemented by a high-shine, glossy coat. The definition of chic.

When you head to your next manicure appointment, ask to see the salon’s selection of oxblood and maroon shades to recreate the look. You can also do it at home, especially given it’s a simple block colour, making it much easier to execute. CND’s Vinylux Long Wear Polish in Maple Leaves is a great option, and for a moodier shade, try the Black Cherry colour.

Chanel’s Le Vernis in 155 Rouge Noir is a classic, and you’ll also love Essie’s dark burgundy nail polish too. Moral of the story this autumn? Take your cues from your red wine – you simply can’t go wrong.
