Halloween may technically be over but everyone knows that the horrors are an all-year thing. The holiday season itself is not a time free from terror and for many years it was seen as a time as much for ghosts as for gifts. To celebrate this time of frosted fears, we thought we’d put together a gift guide for all you horror fans or people who love horror fans to help the shopping this season!
Company: The Noble Collection
MSRP: $35.00
Everyone loves a little toy to display! Why not put down that Funko Pop and get something a little more true to form with the new Universal Monsters Bendyfigs from The Noble Collection. They’ve got one for every classic monster (including The Phantom) and they’re pretty nice for the price. Seven inches tall and fully poseable, they’re great for Halloween decorations or just to display with your skulls, potions, and spooky cloaks.
Publisher: Free League Publishing
MSRP: $26.63
I know, I know. Lovecraft. But let’s just put him aside and focus on this fantastic coffee table book, the next in Free League’s series with French artist François Baranger that includes The Call of Cthulhu and At The Mountains of Madness. Like those titles, The Dunwich Horror is one of those stories that you think of when you think of Lovecraft: sinister village, creepy fish people, the horror that is Massachusetts. This edition blows the story up into poster sized illustrations all artfully laid out to maximize the terror and beauty at play.
Unmatched: Cobble & Fog
Publisher: Restoration Games
MSRP: $40.00
Board games are always a great gift and Cobble & Fog is great for anyone who loves classic literary horror. Sherlock Holmes is joined by The Invisible Man, Jekyll & Hyde, and Dracula for a fierce battle. There’s not strong plot, no reason for it. Just some Victorian baddies dukeing it out for supremacy. Like other Unmatched titles, Cobble & Fog is a simple skirmish game where you move your character around and perform actions based on your cards. The strategy is all in how you play them and how you deal with other player. Plus it’s fully compatible with other Unmatched titles, so why not throw in a Dinosaur or maybe a Vampire Slayer?
Suspiria Vinyl Soundtrack
Publisher: Mondo
MSRP: $35.00
Goblin’s soundtrack to Dario Argento’s 1977 horror film is considered one of the greatest of all time thanks to its creepy prog rock vibes and sinister atmosphere. It remains as much an essential part of horror cinema as the movie itself. Mondo, as you’d expect, has spared no expense crafting a beautiful new vinylr release for the soundtrack. Artist Randy Ortiz has crafted a hauntingly trippy art piece for the cover while the disc itself is etched onto a blue and white splattered 140 gram record. Give them something they can both display and play with this one!
Out There Screaming
Publisher: Penguin
MSRP: $30 hardcover/ $13 ebook
A personal recommendation from our horror lit expert Cat, Out There Screaming is an anthology of horror stories from Black America co-edited by none other than Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope, Mad TV). It features stories by a who’s who of the modern genre scene including Maurice Broaddus, Rebecca Roanhorse, and Nnedi Okorafor! It’s the perfect season for cuddling up with a book so why not give them something that’ll REALLY make their spirits bright?
