Weekend Flyer: Last Waltz tribute, Protohive, Hog Football, and more

(The 1 oz. Jig)

There’s only one cure we know of for what happens to your body after you eat like four slices of pie in one day, and it is to get out and shake your booty around to some live music. Science.

As always, Fayetteville’s got your covered in that department.

It’s the final Razorback football game weekend of the year, and the Hogs will take on Missouri to close out their season. It’s a 3 p.m. kickoff, and it will be televised by CBS.

There’s also a men’s basketball game on Friday as the Hogs take on North Carolina in the Battle for Atlantis tournament. It’s a noon tipoff, and it’ll be televised by ESPN2 (That’s the plan, anyway. We’ll believe it when we see it, ESPN).

Music-wise, George’s will kick things off with local rockers Full House for a happy hour show. Later on, there’s a electronic show (and excellent chance to shake off a pie hangover) with TVBOO.

On Saturday night, local band 1 oz. Jig will host another installment of their Last Waltz tribute show. This one has another all star cast. In addition to the talented organizers in the 1 Oz. Jig., legendary guitarist Earl Cate (whose band The Cate Brothers collaborated and intermingled with The Band for decades, more on that below), along with Paul Boatright (Punkinhead), Michael Tisdale, Rachel Fields, Rochelle Bradshaw, Eric Witthans, Richard Burnett, Patti Steel, Meredith Kimbrough, Brian Hembree, Bernice Hembree, Derek Russell, Sam Apperson, and Lee Zodrow will perform songs from the Last Waltz. We’ve heard Robbie Robertson’s old AMP will be utilized on stage. Sounds like a recipe for magic.

Also in tunes, there’s a rock show at Smoke & Barrel on Saturday night with locals Protohive, Liquid Courage and The Salesman.

There’s more below. Have a good weekend, everyone.
