Ebay Launches Luxury Consignment Service in Designer Handbag Category

Ebay has introduced Ebay consignment for luxury products, providing owners with direct access to expert sellers who will list and sell items on their behalf. The service is launching with designer handbags and will add other categories, including jewelry and watches, in 2024.

The consignment partners will handle all components of the sale, from photography to pricing, to ensure the listing is competitive and professional. Eligible items listed for $500 or more will display the Ebay Authenticity Guarantee checkmark, and once they are sold they will go through Ebay’s authentication process. To power the service at its onset, Ebay has partnered with Linda Lightman, Founder of Linda’s Stuff and operator of a consignment store on the platform for more than 20 years.

“Our top priority is to respond to the ever-evolving needs of our customers, and continuously delight luxury shoppers and sellers,” said Tirath Kamdar, Global GM of Luxury at Ebay in a statement. “Launching a consignment service builds on the momentum of offerings like Authenticity Guarantee and Certified by Brand, giving our customers more trusted ways to buy and sell on the marketplace.

Ebay consignment is available for handbags at any price point, in new or pre-owned condition, from select brands that include Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Hermès, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Salvatore Ferragamo, Stella McCartney, Tom Ford, Valentino and Versace.

Ebay has been moving aggressively to court luxury sellers and buyers; the platform wooed collectors by opening up its trading card vault to products not purchased directly on its marketplace in July 2023. Ebay also launched a new AI-powered listing tool earlier this week.
